Welcome to Undercurrent Lit

We are a biannual non-profit online literary journal seeking deep-dive stories with powerful shifts just beneath the surface, like an ocean current. We invite settings that span West Coast regions: lowlands to rugged sea cliffs, deserts to mountains, tropical to icy climes, and everything in between. We welcome maritime memories, city grit and coastal beach town talk. What matters most are strong voices that stand up for what they believe in  -- the imperfect and explorative. We highlight both established and emerging authors of all ethnicities, orientations and affiliations who can express a sense of place, as long as the writing embraces conflict and risk while being mindful and cathartic. We especially enjoy nuance. Open only to those living on the West Coast: California, Oregon, Washington Alaska, and Hawaii.
